While reading Alder Yarrow’s Vinography I came across a charity event entitled, Menu for Hope 5. Although we wish every day were a time of giving, we’re still glad to be in the middle of a month when that spirit runs highest. The most interesting element of this event is that it gives power to blogs and their readers to make a difference for hungry school children in Lesotho, Africa.
Consider how much work you ever completed on an empty stomach. This isn’t just a matter of proper nutrition, it’s a matter of bettering their focus on education.
The concept is simple. Bloggers from all around the world, including Our Wine Story, have donated prizes. To win these prizes readers can purchase a ticket for $10, giving them one chance at a specific prize. The more tickets you buy, the better your odds for that prize; there is no limit and there are many prizes.
Our prize donation (CODE WB14) consists of a bottle from the first launch of our winery’s 2008 Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is the unprecedented, first product of our winemaking team’s efforts with Tin Cross being released in Spring 2009. Additionally, this wine will arrive paired with an elegantly framed vision of its origin; an image of Tin Cross’ upper vineyard, photographed and signed by the renowned Olaf Beckman. The total package is valued at $542–you might win it for as low as $10. Use CODE WB14 to buy a ticket towards this prize (more specific instructions are listed at the bottom.)
This cause speaks to us in so many ways.
Not only does this feed young school children, many the same age of Daniel’s sons, but it also has a focus on our commitment to sustainable farming methods. As noted on the main site, the program will be using 100% of the profits, “buying directly from local farmers who practice conservation farming methods. With this program, we help feed the kids (which keep them in school) and support their parents and community farming. This sustainable approach to aid is something we believe in and strongly support.” Captûre, too.
